Lately I have seen so many attempts at recreating the Galaxy NRG Foamposite One and have even seen the design adapted to the Zoom Rookie. While the adaption is an obvious choice, it would seem that airbrushing has been a popular choice amongst fellow artists to accomplish the galaxy print. Well I took a different route altogether. I do not like to airbrush, nor do I like to attempt to recreate with a handful of colors what took the cosmos billions of years to create with every color in the visible spectrum… the Nebula (for some reason commonly referred to as a galaxy). I used my own technique of fabric wrapping to accomplish the masterpiece you see above. After the jump you can see images of this shoe from other angles as well as an amazing view of it when the lights go out. Continue reading
Sometimes inspiration hits you in the middle of the night. As I was walking in the pitch black the other night, a poem from my days of pledging to become a Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. came to mind. The poem is by William E. Henley and is called “Invictus”. As Alpha Men we learn this poem to become mantra and live life in such a manner that we always seek the light and never give up. Such conviction and focus can be attributed to the African American Struggle and the Civil Rights Movement. Incidentally one of the most well known and referenced leaders of the CVR happens to be my Fraternity Brother, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Using this poem as inspiration alongside the colors of my Fraternity: black and old gold, and the phrase we always keep in mind as Alpha Men “Seek the Light”, I constructed these “Watch The Poem” AKA “Invictus” LeBron 9’s on the base BHM shoe. Of course, due to some of the similarities between this shoe and the “Watch The Throne” LBJ9, there is a little play on words in the name.
